What is Sultanahmet?
Sultanahmet is the historic core of Istanbul’s Fatih district, on the Historic Peninsula. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, the Basilica Cistern and Topkapı Palace stand within the same walkable area. The neighbourhood forms part of the UNESCO-listed Historic Areas of Istanbul, and its streets still make the city’s Byzantine and Ottoman layers legible on foot.
